Crochet lace covered stone

Holidays are a perfect time for crocher experiments so I took my crochet hooks with me to Slovenia this week. I must have been the only one in the whole train not playing with an iPad or reading a book on Kindle but instead happily occupied with my analog entertainment, crochet.

I have long admired crochet lace covered stones on Etsy and wanted to give it a try myself. That meant going beyond the basic crochet flower and learning new stitches to cover the entire front of the stone.

I improvised a lot and managed to come to the other side of the stone, where I used a temporary yellow thread to tighten the loose hooks and then crochet around it to finish the cover. 

Pictured with the finished stone is a beautiful ceramic plate, made by a fellow Etsy artist Tika.

Že od nekdaj na Etsyju občudujem v čipkaste mojstrovine oblečene okrogle kamne, zato sem se odločila, da še sama poskusim narediti kaj podobnega. Najprej sem se morala naučiti še nekaj vbodov poleg osnovnih rožic, da napolnim celo zgornjo ploskev kamna, sledilo je veliko improviziranja in prispela sem na spodnjo ploskev, kjer sem zanke povlekla skupaj in jih obkvačkala. Krožniček na sliki je delo ustvarjalke Tike.

Harvest inspiration

Two more Mia pouches are in Loddelina shop!

I love the new design, it is small enough to make in one day - my working hours are scattered between housework and two children - and I get to express myself differently with each purse.

The first one is made of cream white upholstery fabric with a patch of Ikea printed canvas that inspired me to add some embroidery & beads in the back in matching orange and aqua.

The second one was inspired by the tag "harvest" that Etsy admin sugested for the coming season - I used warm grey fabric with burnt orange silk and some cream lace. To add a seasonal touch I embroidered two trees in the front and added some olive green trim in the back.

To show that the harvest tag is really hot at the moment, Sherri from SherriConley (check out her shop for some amazing photography!), featured the orange pouch in her Harves Time treasury just minutes after Mia was listed.

Package for Sam 2

A follow up picture of my Lovely package exchange contribution - the inside of the package.

Since Sam told me she loves candles I included a pack of small tea candles with golden crown design (Sam is from UK so it seemd appropriate).

She also mentioned she likes anything with a flowery pattern so I bought a Paperblanks pocket journal - not a handmade product but I love these journals and their beautiful cover designs with very high quality paper. I use them myself to write my children's journals because I want them to be able to read about their childhood when they themselves become parents.

A lovely package for Sam (part 1)

A while ago I've signed up for a lovely package exchange organised by Danni at Oh, Hello Friend. I've just posted some of the pictures of my package on Flickr, keeping the contents a secret since it hasn't arrived at it's destination yet...

My assigned partner was Sam, a young girl from Oxfordshire, UK, who is training to be a florist and loves country garden themes, soft colours and floral prints. I've found a couple of pretty things I hope she will like and "wrapped" them the way I know best - as a purse. I sewed a pocket just big enough to fit the present, using beige linen-viscose blend for the outside and black cotton for the inside of the pocket. I then carefully sewed fabric rose petals all over the pocket - I have bought a box of them as home decoration a long time ago, I knew they would come handy one day... To hide the stitches on the rose petals in top row, I sewed a piece of golden lace along the rim and added an elastic loop that goes around the button.

It was a race against time to finish the package before the evening got too dark for outside photography - in all the rush I forgot to take a picture of the protective wrapping the purse was put in... Maybe Sam will take one for me when she gets her present. She loves photography and has an amazing Flickr album.

There's another lovely package exchange in December - I will be sure to participate again!
