Wishing for spring

While outside my window winter only just begun (we've had almost 1 metre of snow over the last seven days), my thoughts are fast forwarding towards spring - I crave pastel colours and cheerful motifs.

I added three new XL zipper pouches with a starfish applique (that one always makes me smile and made from soft corduroy it feels nice to touch as well). I was able to use some leftover cotton canvas from my university days when we experimented with dyeing - that is why I like to work on smaller purses, there is always an opporunity to use those pretty little scraps of fabric I find difficult to throw away...

A friend of mine asked for a custom faux leather messenger - she wanted bright green interior and a cheerful embroidery on the front - with the word Hope. Perfect for spring!

Back to school!

September is time for children to go back to school and for their mama to have more time for sewing :-)

So here they are, september news in my shop:

For all your daily walks around town, here are two messenger bags in super soft vegan leather, handmade embroidery and adjustable shoulder strap. The bag has many pockets; exterior zipper pocket plus interior pockets - one with a flap for your phone, small slip pockets for tissues, a small notebook (am I the only one who still uses paper?) and pens plus a swivel hook for keys.

While working with vegan leather, I tried out a small zipper pouch and here are the results.

And for those who think small is beautiful and tiny is downright awesome, here are five more fabric brooches.

May your September be warm and sunny!

Nazaj v šolo!
Ko gredo otroci septembra nazaj v šolo, ima mama končno več časa za šivanje... Tule so rezultati zadnjih dveh tednov, zdaj na voljo v trgovini. Lep sončen september vam želim!

Faux leather messenger

As I promised in my last post, I tried something new and made a messenger bag from a piece of high quality upholstery faux leather I had bought recently. Sewing was smooth as butter and I was surprised at how naturally the pleather looks and feels - definitely worth trying!

I decided to make this messenger a bit taller than my usual cross body bags (3 cm) but otherwise the same, with extra metallic zipper pocket in the back. Soft grey strap complemented the metalware and I decided to add a simple freefoot embroidery in front - with a bit of silver metallic thread for additional shine.

The messenger bag has four interior slip pockets for phone, tissues, pens and paper notebook (yes, I still use one of those for quick sketches or for entertaining children while we wait at the restaurants and such) plus one zippered pocket for smaller items. A swivel hook and another D-ring on the side of the lining hold my keys and a foldable shopping bag.

The leather is lovely dark brown shade, one that goes equally well with brown, grey or black accessories. I needed a bag that was a bit more neutral than my lively red velvet with turquoise starfish I have been wearing for this past year - I never even posted that bag on blogger so here it is:

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

October news

So much to tell, so little time! Between sewing, taking pictures and editing them there is hardly enought time left to blog about it...

The nature is changing into red, orange and yellow and such is the latest messenger bag in my shop - I added a large dragonfly metallic charm in front and the soft adjustable strap in chocolate brown was chosen over the yellow one thanks to the input from my Facebook followers :-)

The second purse is a Pippa handbag, elegant and petite bag for special occasions - I chose dove grey and dark brown upholstery fabrics with beautiful structure, silver thread for embroidery and some purple and olive green ribbons to add a bit of colour. Handmade kanzashi flower brooch is detachable and can be worn on a bag or on your top to coplete the look.

A new home, anyone? Here are the latest house brooches, don't forget the Christmas tree...

August news

August has been a slow month on Etsy and also in my studio since I have both children at home which means more play and less work... But I did manage to add four new messenger bags to my shop these past days - they are all made from gorgeous upholstery fabrics in vibrant autumn colours of olive green, deep purple, red and burnt orange.

All the bags have adjustable straps made from butter soft nylon webbing - I am so delighted with their rich colours and elegant texture that I immediately ordered more so you will be seeing these shoulder straps on all my cross body bags.

And I felt like making a few new house brooches as well, they always cheer me up! I will be adding zipper pouches next, getting ready for back-to-school, so stay tuned!

Soon in my shop

I made two new messenger bags with adjustable strap over the weekend, one will be available in my Etsy shop later today and the other I am keeping for myself ( I honestly needed a new bag!)

New Luna bag is a medium size messenger bag with tons of interfacing so it will keep it's shape plus you can store everything neatly in its many pockets - there are two double compartement interior pockets, one large exterior pocket in the back and one zippered pocket under the front flap. Interior also has a swivel hook for attaching keys and the front flap closes securely with a magnetic snap.

This was the first time I made two identical bags simultaneously, phase by phase. Usually I prefer making one bag from start to finish, from cutting the fabric and fusing it with interfacing to placing the magnetic snap and closing the lining at the end.
I am keeping the bag on the right. Perhaps when it stops raining I can model it outside...

And here is a look at the wall above my sewing table - since we are renting I can't do much about this ugly structured wall paint but I can dress it up a bit with my favourite pictures. The cheerful Amsterdam canal print is from Laura Amiss and next to it are my postcards of Ljubljana, Cape Town and one with Le Petit Prince.

Autumn is here

... With warm, earthy tones of brown, mustard, rusty red and burnt orange.

I like to walk past flower shops and market place florists to see how their displays change with season. Even a small town flower shop can tempt me into buying a bouquet - I would love to have one of these miniature paprika plants in my kitchen but I'm affraid the children will want to eat them...

And I just added a new messenge bag to my shop - with adjustable strap, going from front to back of the bag. The messenger in made from warm gray upholstery fabric, has a decorative flap in striped canvas and closes with an interior magnetic snap.
(The pictures need retaking, yesterday was a very dark and cloudy day...)

Got-everything? messenger bag

After designing Ma-ma zipper pouch for nappy changing necessities (see earlier posts) it was time for Mama to get her own messenger bag.  A bag just for me and my most basic stuff: it has a metalic hook to fasten my keys, an interior zippered pocket for documents, a padded compartment for my cell phone and another one with a velcro closing flap for my ixus. Next to it is yet another small interior compartment that holds a lip gloss and a pen.
On the back side is a zippered pocket for my tram ticket and a small sewing tape measure plus another zippered pocket, hidden under the flap in the front (the flap closes securely with two magnetic snaps).
I've used the same fabric as for my Ma-ma pouch, a printed cotton canvas from IKEA - I've seen it used by quite a few Etsy sellers but for some reason people are reluctant to give it's source. Well, the beautiful floral pattern was designed by Linda Svensson.
