Shop news: crossbody purses and coin pouches

With flowers still very much on my mind, I added some new card purses to my shop this week - the design has slightly changed, with a softer, rounder shape to complement the faux leather. Each purse is decorated with a patch of dark grey vegan leather, embroidered with plants and blossoms. Purses have zipper closure and an interior pocket for a bank note, coupons and such.

Another new design is a small crossbody purse or zipper pouch, small but roomy enough to hold a phone (there is a small pocket for it inside), keys, lipstick and other essentials for an evening out. The new bag can also be a practical travel pouch for keeping your passport and other papers handy. Made from faux leather or sturdy canvas, the purse closes with a zipper and hangs on a soft cotton cord.

Photographing these was quite a challenge, one cloudy day I had everything set by the large windows in the living room when a dark cloud completely covered the sky and took all the light with it. The next day sun was blasting from the sky with such intensity it turned all my pictures yellow and no amount of photoshopping could fix them. So yesterday I finally got a break with a perfect soft natural light  and a little decorative help from my blossoming azalea :-)

Have a great Sunday!

April news

We are in the second week of Easter holidays here in eastern France - the weather hasn't been too great for spending time outdoors so I am charged with entertainment, craft projects and other indoor activities for the children, saving a little time for sewing as well.

Some of this month's new listings to the shop; larger, extended versions of coin purse that I first made after a dear customer requested a purse in which she could store all her credit and various fidelity cards (we all have tons of those!). The card purse has two interior slip pocket for organizing cards, card payment slips, tickets and passes, which leaves enough room for coins and other smaller items.

A custom made iPhone pouch was another challenge for me, I haven't sewn a curved zipper in a long time but it was the only way to make taking the phone in and out of the purse easier - I am very happy with the result and the padded lining gives the phone enough protection without making the pouch too bulky.

Tomorrow is May 1st, international worker's day, a day off for some but a busy, perhaps sewing day for others :-)

Aprilske novosti

Lep praznik dela želim in uživajte v majskih oblakih!

Autumn

I love autumn, the smell of wet leaves, the soft morning mist that promises another sunny day, chestnuts, grapes, apples,.. inspirations are endless.

I have added some autumn zippered pouches in my shop recently, together with some house brooches - I think my shop will need more of both to be ready for the big holiday season...

Obožujem jesen, vonj mokrih listov, nežne jutranje meglice, ki obljubljajo še en sončen dan, kostanj, grozdje in jabolka,... neskončno navdihujoče!
V trgovino sem dodala nekaj novih puščic na zadrgo in majhne hiške broške - obojih bom morala zašiti še precej, da napolnim trgovino pred božično sezono...

forget me not

We have finally gotten a break and some warmer, dryer weather is on its way.
The cold, rainy weeks haven't been very creative but time was not wasted; I spent many evenings cuddled up on the couch watching DVDs and crocheting tiny flowers.

Here is the result, a large zippered wristlet, made from dark navy blue, almost grey cool wool cloth (the kind used for men's suits) and sewn on are tiny crochet flowers in light green hues, with blue embroidered stems.

The wristlet is lined with hand dyed cotton canvas in fresh cobalt blue and it has one mint green interior slip pocket.

Since little flowers remind me of forget-me-nots, I embroidered their French name, "ne m'oublie pas", on the back.
Don't forget, the summer is bound to come!

Shop news

I added four new zipper pouches in my shop today, a collection of wool cloth purses with silk patches, embroidery and lace trim.

Next I have some special orders to work on and some more new designs for winter season.

See you soon!

New in the shop

I just listed a new bag in my shop, a medium to large messenger shoulder bag in dark chocolate corduroy, decorated with tulip applique and embroidery in pink, red and purple. Bag is fully lined with red canvas and has a large pocket in the back that closes with a magnetic snap.

Adjustable shoulder strap is made from cherry red canvas and a patch of striped canvas and the bag has five interior pockets for all your essentials, like phone, pencils, sunglasses and tissues + a swivel hook for your keys.

I made another bag very similar to this one for myself and have been happily carrying it around for a few days - I use my swivel hook to attach a reusable canvas shopping bag and I slip my keys in the back pocket which can also hold a newspaper or a small package I need to take to the post office. Other pockets hold my mobile phone, my iPod, a bag of paper tissues, my wallet and pens. Plus there is plenty of room for a small sketch book, sunglasses, a small scarf for sudden chilly wind (very common on this high altitude) and a makeup pouch. What else does a girl need?

New in my shop

One expects winter to be cold but to have temperatures around -18°C for several days in a row is just too much and sitting still at the sewing machine gets a bit chilly after a while. I did manage to add a few zippered purses to my shop recently and am working on a custom order bag at the moment (pictures to follow).
In the next weeks I plan to work on new hipster bags for spring and perhaps a smaller version of money purse (with my new stock of 4" zippers).
You may find the new purses in my shop.

So try to stay warm and let's hope this long and cold February is soon behind us...

Have a nice weekend!

Yesterday I added a new zippered pouch to my shop - a dark brown canvas base with emerald green and raspberry pink silk patches, decorated with matching trims.

I wanted to list another purse but the day got too short as I decided at the last minute to make a small girl tote as a present to my friend's daughter. I used my favourite Ikea striped canvas and lined it with whimsical colourful print of lobsters and fruit - what else!

I wish you a great weekend,
See you soon!

My Day Monday

It has been a while since I posted my Monday Etsy favourites - time to start the weekly post again!

LEAVES

And the reason for picking the leaves theme is that after a long sewing pause I am finally adding something new to my shop: a zippered purse in cream canvas with stripes and leaves. I have a couple more cut out & waiting, I hope to add them tomorrow.

Have a great start of the new week!

November news

As promised I have added four new iPhone sleeves to my shop - two with cheerful stripes and two in dark wool with embroidery.
These slim cases fit iPhone 4 and 4S perfectly so no velcro or magnetic closures are necessary. Cozies are lined with soft wool cloth or cotton corduroy and have no raw seams. Other sizes are available upon request.

New in my shop

I listed another large City Tote today, this one is made from fine dark olive green corduroy in combination with cheerful striped cloth in pink, purple and pea green. Comfortable, broad shoulder straps are made from the same striped cloth and inside of the bag is lined with khaki canvas.

Over the weekend I experimented with shapes again and made this large, square wristlet from neutral linen blend - I adorned the front and back with some freehand embroidery and added a handmade bobbin lace that I've bought in Slovenia.

The region of Idrija in Slovenia has a long tradition of bobbin lace making; this delicate lace, often with flower motifs or heart shaped, is made from fine cotton thread, twisted and pleated over little pins in a round pillow. Click HERE to read more about this fascinating technique.

I've purchased several different pieces of bobbin lace, I will mostly use them for decorating smaller purses...

Weekend!

I listed another bag today, it is a remake of my red city tote with rainbow stripes that got sold recently (thank you, cousin :) - a roomy, sturdy everyday bag, stylish book tote or whatever you want it to be...

This weekend I won't have much time for sewing - first official weekend of autumn is going to be exceptionally sunny and warm so my family will try to make the most of it (chilly, foggy mornings are reminding us that winter is not that far away...).

I wish you all a great weekend, see you soon!

Autumn is here

Time to switch to warmer, more muted shades and wooly, cozy materials.

Some fabrics I have worked with before and am coming back to, like this dark grey wool cloth, meant for mens' wear and perfect for decorating with freehand embroidery and lace. Little money purse is also adorned with some embroidered ric rac trim and a wooden button.

Others I am testing out, like this upholstery canvas I purchased recently and is actually black floral jacquard on brown chenille base - I used its reverse side for more elegant look of this medium hipster bag and am quite pleased with the result.

Both items are now available in my shop.

New in my shop

I am so happy to be back at my sewing station that I already listed three new items in my shop since we came back from vacation last weekend!
Three items might not seem much but to me it is quite an achievement, considering all the unpacking, tidying the flat and a huge pile of laundry we had to take care of first (and I mean "we", thanks, honey, for helping :)

So here they are, a new Maia zippered purse (with a slightly revisited design from last autumn, there will be more to come) and two tiny house brooches. It was a lot of fun making these, especially the one with fairy lights; do you think I should make more for the coming Christmas season?

Grey and burnt orange with creamy white lace and embroidery

There's a party next door!

Closing of the little house once I have stuffed it with soft and light plant fibre filling...

Enjoy the rest of your week, more Etsy news coming soon!

Chocolate and polka dots

I listed another Pippa purse today and due to a small error (pssst, don't tell anyone) I made the bottom slightly deeper; the end result is this very petite purse with more prominent hexagonal shape.

The purse with a sort of 50's feel is made from dark chocolate brown upholstery fabric and warm grey canvas, decorated with red polka dotted ribbon, red corduroy straps and matching flower brooch. Ever since I bought the craft book Kanzashi in Bloom, I wanted to try out one of its many fabulous ideas and this seemed like a perfect opportunity. I cut out and folded five petals from grey canvas and decorated them with red wooden beads. The three dimensional flower is attached to a pin and can be also worn independently as a brooch.

Pippa purse is lined with creamy beige checkered cotton canvas and has one interior zippered pocket plus a swivel hook for attaching keys. New bag is now available in my shop.

And remember those zinnias I bought last week? They are now planted in two flower boxes and are making me smile every time I look out the window...

Have a great start of the new week!
